Compassion in Action Award - Walter Meske
Walter Meske was Dean of Students for many years at Walla Walla College where he counseled, comforted and guided young people who went on to become productive members of society. During these same years, he volunteered in many community activities such as Red Cross blood drives at the Walla Walla College Church, the volunteer College Place fire department, the Civil Service Commision and the Board of Adjustment. After retiring from Walla Walla College, Walter spent thirteen years as chaplain at the Walla Walla General Hospital, encouraging patients about to undergo surgery, rejoicing with parents at the birth of a child and providing comfort for those grieving the loss of a loved one. After he and his wife, Bonnie, moved to Wheatland Village, Walter continued his chaplaincy work, now for people living in the Wheatland Village Retirement Center. Walter has touched the lives of hundreds of people in the Walla Walla Valley. He has spent his life caring for others. We are proud to offer him the Red Cross Compassion In Action Award. |
